3rd September to October

Eye Candy - Contemporary Craft at the Kitchen Gallery

You are warmly invited to a Private View of Lisa Ashcroft
at the Kitchen Gallery

3rd Septmber 1.30-4.00pm

The Kitchen Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of art
work by Lisa Ashcroft. Lisa was selected from twenty-two finalists to be the
first winner of the Kitchen Gallery Open; meet her at her solo show Eye Candy at
the private view on Sunday 3rd September 1.30-4.

Lisa says of her work:
"I use non-traditional materials including glitter, plastic
figures, hanging air fresheners, toys, magnetic letters typically thought of as
garish and crass to create intricate and delicate works.

I use kitsch to incorporate the commonplace to question
society's morals in a formal way embracing popular culture.

My interest is how I merge urban culture and perception: the
way we look at the world, building up an image of the whole from different
fragments of travel (looking and reacting to culture) and humour (universal
language). I try to embrace, yet challenge aesthetic traditions and their
critical interpretations.

Everyone absorbs influence I chose mine carefully then my style developed as part of my personality. Each painting is created by the obsessive labour of stitching. The viewer is drawn in by the sublime, found in the sparkle of glitter, the sumptuous textures and vivid colours in which, the 'cute' layered appearance camouflages the crude and seedy (mimicking our own culture)".
Eye Candy at the Kitchen Gallery has been supported by funding from the Arts Council of England, Halton Borough Council Arts Development Unit and by Norton Priory Museum and Gardens.

The Kitchen Gallery is also delighted to announce that we can now offer the Own Art scheme.

Please follow the link for further details of this Arts Council supported innitiative.

'Silent Sound' to be Recorded @ St Georges Hall, Liverpool

(posted by Jan Jacksons, http://www.artinliverpool.com)

"Silent Sound is Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard's most ambitious work to date, it is a performance and installation and will be presented as part of the Liverpool Biennial of contemporary art.
On Thursday 14th September 2006 Forsyth and Pollard will stage a uniquely emotive experience which explores the mind's susceptibility to subliminal suggestion.
The performance will take place in the Small Concert Hall in St. George's Hall in Liverpool.
The artists have joined forces with two uniquely talented collaborators. Jason Pierce, leader of the critically acclaimed band Spiritualized, has written the musical composition and will perform the piece on the night with a string quartet and supporting musicians."
